My Personal Dog Trainer FAQ’s
What it takes to achieve success
We get a lot of questions about what to expect along the way. Take a look at some of our more frequently asked questions to help you determine whether training is right for you and your dog.
Training success depends heavily on what happens in between training sessions or after your dog returns home.
Owners play an important role in training success and building a relationship with their pup. By keeping these key points in mind, owners will increase their success rate and enjoy a rewarding relationship with their dog:
- Maintain routine and structure
- Practice skills regularly
- Managing your environment
- Ensuring consistency across household members
- Providing appropriate mental and physical enrichment
Is dog training success guaranteed?
Unfortunately, there are no guaranteed specific outcomes with dog training. Dog training relies on a number of variables that include genetics, breed, age, and most of all, consistent follow-through training at home. Our training programs at My Personal Dog Trainer provides clear guidance and foundational training to promote a high-success rate following training completion.
Will training “fix” my dog permanently?
Dog training sessions help build skills that both you and your dog can rely on, promoting long-term success that is dependent on consistency and reinforcement. There is no “fix”.
Does dog training require at-home work?
Yes, at-home work will be required during training and throughout the lifetime relationship with your dog. With consistent reinforcement, training becomes a part of your everyday life, ingraining itself into your routines and daily activities and making it effortless…
How much of dog training is done by a trainer vs myself?
We guide, shape, and teach both you and your dog methods and approaches to create lasting results. These results, however, are only truly successful when practiced and reinforced daily by you, long after our training sessions have ended.
What does dog training not do?
Dog training can not override innate behaviors in dogs that are driven by genetics or breed traits. Training also does not permanently fix behaviors without consistent follow-through or modification of at-home routines or structure. In order to properly train your dog and achieve the results you want, modifications to your routine and life may be a requirement.

From drop-off to post-training check-ins, Jaime and her team have gone above and beyond to take the best care of our dog. After completing boarding and training, our dog is so much calmer. We feel confident using the training tools Jaime gave us and simply cannot recommend her enough. Our pup was in the best hands.Posted on Kristine JayTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I don’t usually write reviews unless something is truly worth my time, and Jaime and Jacob absolutely are. I highly recommend their 3-week board and train program. Millie has a great personality, but like most puppies, she struggled with chewing rugs, pulling on walks, and acting overly excited because she wanted to be everyone’s friend. She’s only been home for two days, and the difference is already amazing. She walks calmly right beside me, listens well, understands the word “no,” and no longer chews on everything she finds. She’s even learned when to stop and respect boundaries when her older sister (our 12-year-old Maltese) gives her a signal. Jaime continues to check in with us and offers great recommendations—from treats to grooming tools—which shows how much they truly care. I also love the lifetime support and the option to board Millie with them in the future, knowing she’ll continue to get structure and training instead of just free play. I can’t thank them enough. Highly recommend!Posted on Crystal EchevarriaTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. My family has worked with Jaime multiple times over the past few years. She is so knowledgeable and we have learned SO much from working with her. Jaime really helped us (and our kids) learn to better understand how our dogs were communicating with us so that we could know what they needed. We used her for in home training sessions, which was great because the dog gets to be in their safe space and we get to learn along with the dog. I would highly recommend her over a big box training program. (We tried that too and had a horrible experience.) If you are reading this- call jaime. She knows her stuff and she truly cares about dogs.Posted on Meghan KamperschroerTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. We could not be happier with Jaime’s work with our 4 month old Golden Retriever puppy, Ripley. We sent him to the 3 week board & train program and have been so impressed with his behavior once he returned. Before he started the program he was a typical crazy Golden puppy- getting into everything, jumping on people, and generally not responsive to us. Since working with Jaime, he walks right next to us on walks, listens to us, and is much less disruptive in the house. The best part is that he is still the puppy that we know and love, he’s just much calmer and more disciplined. Some highlights that make Jaime stand out- her use of only positive reinforcement in her training! She’s super responsive to any questions or feedback that we had. And from the moment we engaged with her, she started providing guidance and resources to help with our puppy journey. This started before we even brought Ripley home! She talked us through things that we should bring to pick him up at the breeder and how we should manage his schedule, potty training, etc in those first couple months before he started the training program. This was so helpful with introducing a new puppy to our family. We can’t thank Jaime enough for helping Ripley become a great dog for our family and look forward to continuing to work with her.Posted on Adriane AdkessonTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Amazing as always! Drax always comes home better than when he left for boarding there. Thank you!Posted on Blake TTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Before receiving training, our dog walks were frequently unpleasant with excessive tugging of the leash and uncontrollable barking around other dogs. After training with Jaime, it is like we have a new dog. She has given us all the tools, resources and videos to take this training back into our own home. As an added bonus to this training, we found that our dog was treated as a family member in the home of Jaime . . . and given all the love and care during these three weeks. This was priceless. Thank you.Posted on April JelinekTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Jamie is truly special and so good at what she does! Our golden retriever, Buddie, just did her 3 week board and train program and it was the best investments we could have made for him. Jaime sent us video updates and was very responsive every step of the way, providing resources and support to to educate us in the process. The best part is that she commits to the life of the dog and offers boarding privileges to her 3 week clients! Highly recommend!Posted on Andy RaiaTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. We sent our 5 month old rescue puppy, Pip, to Jaime’s 3-week board and train class. Jaime worked with Pip on all the basics - walking on a leash, sit, stay, down, crate training, etc. Jaime would send daily videos and updates during the training program. She also walked us through everything in person and provided more videos and resources when we went to pick her up. We have had regular contact with Jaime after the training and she continues to give advice if any issues pop up. Pip is doing great! We can’t believe how much progress she made in the three weeks with Jaime. We have been very happy with the results of Jaime’s program, and we continue to learn from Jaime even though the board and train session has ended. Thanks Jaime!Posted on Teresa MTDTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Jamie and her team did a great job working with our YorkiePoo. He was a fresh 4 months old when we sent him to her and we had a specific list of areas that we wanted her to work on. She checked all the boxes and more! Our dog came home SO happy and well behaved. Jamie worked with us on the tools she used and provided us with many resources to reference from home. The key to a successful training is continuing to train when you get home. She has also checked up on our dog almost every day!!! She will also be available for us for anything at anytime. It's safe to say he has a new family member because he loves her so much! We HIGHLY recommend My Personal Dog Trainer!Posted on Nancy SchmidtTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Incredible! We were at our wits end with our 7 month old Cream Golden. She almost pulled me over on walks, jumped on everyone, ate mulch and dug in the yard, and didn’t respond to directions. She was also very anxious. We had a trainer to our house several times and there was no improvement. We sent her to Jaime for 3 weeks of boarding and training. Jaime said our puppy was a “challenge,” but at the end, we have a nearly perfect puppy! She is calm, walks next to me and we walk for at least 2 miles per day. She never jumps, doesn’t touch the mulch or dig in the yard. In fact, for the first time, she roams the yard without incident, ever!!! AND she responds to commands immediately! Thanks to Jaime and Jacob, we can enjoy our retriever. They worked wonders 😃Load more
