Board & Train

Two and three-week programs:

For the happy, well-mannered dog you deserve!

  • Two transfer sessions to teach YOU how to maintain what your dog has learned.
  • Daily video updates of your dog’s progress

The foundation of your program is laid during your consultation. It is a standalone session with zero pressure to commit to a program.

Ongoing Support

One thing that separates us from other training options is our ongoing training support for the LIFE of your dog. That’s right. Once you make the decision to hire us, we never abandon you, you’re making a long-term investment in your dog.

Why three weeks?

We have found that anything less than three weeks puts a lot of unnecessary pressure on your dog. Three weeks make it a fun experience while your dog builds excellent obedience and impulse control. It also gives us time to incorporate a lot of field trips to places such as parks, family parties, sports games, and stores. Your dog gets to practice in real-world settings BEFORE they go home.

Learning environment

Your dog will be staying in the comfort of our home and treated like a member of our family. How else does a dog learn to be a well-mannered family member? We like to think of it more as a “doggie vacation with training” than “boot camp.”

What about serious behavior issues?

If your dog has more profound behavior issues, such as moderate to severe aggression and/or anxiety, four and five-week programs are available.

Service Dog?

If you have a service dog, therapy dog, or emotional support dog inquiry, please contact us.

What to Expect

Our Board & Train program is a two- to three-week overnight training intensive where your dog lives with our family and learns foundational obedience skills in a structured environment. This program helps to jumpstart training success, building clear boundaries, and establishing a training routine that makes everyday life easier for your dog.

Board & Train, however, is not a permanent solution on its own. Dogs don’t live with their trainer forever; they live with their families and in their own homes, each with their own unique daily challenges. This makes the owner education and follow-through aspect of our Board & Train program equally as important.

What Your Dog Learns:

During your dog's board & train stay, they will learn:

  • Sit/stay and down/stay
  • Recall (coming when called)
  • Loose-leash walking & obedience
  • Place/boundary work
  • Impulse control
  • Household manners & behavior

What your dog will learn during their board & train at My Personal Dog Trainer:

check

Foundational Obedience

This is the root of all successful canine training and helps to build a solid foundation on which your pup can learn and improve on more complex skills. Our foundational training will cover simple sit/stay and down/stay commands, recall (coming when called), as well as on and off-leash training in settings that introduce different environments and varying levels of distraction.

check

Household Manners & Behavior

The board and train program integrates your canine into a structured daily routine, living in my home through the duration of their stay. This means they learn what daily life should look like inside the home, creating positive habits and behaviors that promote a calm household that is comfortable for both canine and human. Here, they will learn household boundaries that control impulses such as jumping and barking so your family and guests feel welcome.

check

Impulse & Behavior Control

Like humans, all dogs are different, having different impulses and behavioral triggers that can increase stress levels at unwanted times. During the board and train process, we will work with your canine to identify external triggers and undesirable behaviors, replacing those frantic reactions with thoughtful choices.

check

Consistency, Not Suppression

Behaviors such as jumping, barking, or reactivity are addressed through consistent modeling and reinforcement, not suppression. Setting clear behavior expectations for your dog and maintaining consistency will help keep you on the path to success and promote healthy behaviors at home and in public.

What Owners Learn:

Our Board & Train program gives owners the tools to maintain consistency:

  • How to maintain structure at home
  • How to reinforce trained behaviors
  • Managing daily routines and changes in the environment
  • Preventing training regression

Training Expectations

During our consultation, we’ll discuss all aspects of the Board & Train program, tailoring learning goals to your dog's personality and individual breed. Despite proven training methods, not all behaviors can be modified, and success rates are influenced by a number of external factors.

  • Training cannot override animal genetics or breed traits
  • Results vary based on training consistency, home environment, and follow-through
  • Our programs require daily practice and routine after your dog returns home
owner expectations

Build a foundation for long-term success at home.

The Board & Train program is an excellent choice for building a strong foundational obedience and exposure to a daily routine. But long-term success is built at home. Just like your bond with your dog, consistency requires a lifelong commitment, but with practice, it soon becomes second nature for both you and your furry friend.

Who is this program for?

The Board & Train Program may be a great fit for you and your dog if:

  • You are looking for a strong training foundation
  • You’re willing to continue training at home
  • You value structure and consistency
  • You want guidance, not guarantees

Dog training is not for everyone and may not be for you if:

  • You’re looking for a permanent fix
  • You’re unwilling to modify your at-home routines
  • You want to be completely hands-off

Committed To The Relationship

Dog training is never a quick fix and takes a lifetime of commitment and consistency to achieve the desired results. Your dog's genetics, age, and breed traits all play a role in their inherent behaviors and the overall success of their training. Most importantly, your involvement, relationship, and commitment to your canine can influence training success and help you achieve a rewarding lifelong bond you never thought possible. If you aren’t in a position to adjust your daily routines or prioritize consistent regular practice, professional dog training may not be the right fit at this time.

From drop-off to post-training check-ins, Jaime and her team have gone above and beyond to take the best care of our dog. After completing boarding and training, our dog is so much calmer. We feel confident using the training tools Jaime gave us and simply cannot recommend her enough. Our pup was in the best hands.

I don’t usually write reviews unless something is truly worth my time, and Jaime and Jacob absolutely are. I highly recommend their 3-week board and train program. Millie has a great personality, but like most puppies, she struggled with chewing rugs, pulling on walks, and acting overly excited because she wanted to be everyone’s friend. She’s only been home for two days, and the difference is already amazing. She walks calmly right beside me, listens well, understands the word “no,” and no longer chews on everything she finds. She’s even learned when to stop and respect boundaries when her older sister (our 12-year-old Maltese) gives her a signal. Jaime continues to check in with us and offers great recommendations—from treats to grooming tools—which shows how much they truly care. I also love the lifetime support and the option to board Millie with them in the future, knowing she’ll continue to get structure and training instead of just free play. I can’t thank them enough. Highly recommend!

My family has worked with Jaime multiple times over the past few years. She is so knowledgeable and we have learned SO much from working with her. Jaime really helped us (and our kids) learn to better understand how our dogs were communicating with us so that we could know what they needed. We used her for in home training sessions, which was great because the dog gets to be in their safe space and we get to learn along with the dog. I would highly recommend her over a big box training program. (We tried that too and had a horrible experience.) If you are reading this- call jaime. She knows her stuff and she truly cares about dogs.

We could not be happier with Jaime’s work with our 4 month old Golden Retriever puppy, Ripley. We sent him to the 3 week board & train program and have been so impressed with his behavior once he returned. Before he started the program he was a typical crazy Golden puppy- getting into everything, jumping on people, and generally not responsive to us. Since working with Jaime, he walks right next to us on walks, listens to us, and is much less disruptive in the house. The best part is that he is still the puppy that we know and love, he’s just much calmer and more disciplined. Some highlights that make Jaime stand out- her use of only positive reinforcement in her training! She’s super responsive to any questions or feedback that we had. And from the moment we engaged with her, she started providing guidance and resources to help with our puppy journey. This started before we even brought Ripley home! She talked us through things that we should bring to pick him up at the breeder and how we should manage his schedule, potty training, etc in those first couple months before he started the training program. This was so helpful with introducing a new puppy to our family. We can’t thank Jaime enough for helping Ripley become a great dog for our family and look forward to continuing to work with her.

Before receiving training, our dog walks were frequently unpleasant with excessive tugging of the leash and uncontrollable barking around other dogs. After training with Jaime, it is like we have a new dog. She has given us all the tools, resources and videos to take this training back into our own home. As an added bonus to this training, we found that our dog was treated as a family member in the home of Jaime . . . and given all the love and care during these three weeks. This was priceless. Thank you.

Jamie is truly special and so good at what she does! Our golden retriever, Buddie, just did her 3 week board and train program and it was the best investments we could have made for him. Jaime sent us video updates and was very responsive every step of the way, providing resources and support to to educate us in the process. The best part is that she commits to the life of the dog and offers boarding privileges to her 3 week clients! Highly recommend!

We sent our 5 month old rescue puppy, Pip, to Jaime’s 3-week board and train class. Jaime worked with Pip on all the basics - walking on a leash, sit, stay, down, crate training, etc. Jaime would send daily videos and updates during the training program. She also walked us through everything in person and provided more videos and resources when we went to pick her up. We have had regular contact with Jaime after the training and she continues to give advice if any issues pop up. Pip is doing great! We can’t believe how much progress she made in the three weeks with Jaime. We have been very happy with the results of Jaime’s program, and we continue to learn from Jaime even though the board and train session has ended. Thanks Jaime!

Jamie and her team did a great job working with our YorkiePoo. He was a fresh 4 months old when we sent him to her and we had a specific list of areas that we wanted her to work on. She checked all the boxes and more! Our dog came home SO happy and well behaved. Jamie worked with us on the tools she used and provided us with many resources to reference from home. The key to a successful training is continuing to train when you get home. She has also checked up on our dog almost every day!!! She will also be available for us for anything at anytime. It's safe to say he has a new family member because he loves her so much! We HIGHLY recommend My Personal Dog Trainer!

Incredible! We were at our wits end with our 7 month old Cream Golden. She almost pulled me over on walks, jumped on everyone, ate mulch and dug in the yard, and didn’t respond to directions. She was also very anxious. We had a trainer to our house several times and there was no improvement. We sent her to Jaime for 3 weeks of boarding and training. Jaime said our puppy was a “challenge,” but at the end, we have a nearly perfect puppy! She is calm, walks next to me and we walk for at least 2 miles per day. She never jumps, doesn’t touch the mulch or dig in the yard. In fact, for the first time, she roams the yard without incident, ever!!! AND she responds to commands immediately! Thanks to Jaime and Jacob, we can enjoy our retriever. They worked wonders 😃
