Board & Train
Two and three-week programs:
For the happy, well-mannered dog you deserve!
- A custom training plan tailored to you and your dog based on your training goals, your dog’s personality, and learning style.
- Two transfer sessions to teach YOU how to maintain what your dog has learned.
- Daily video updates of your dog’s progress

The foundation of your program is laid during your consultation. It is a standalone session with zero pressure to commit to a program.
Ongoing Support
One thing that separates us from other training options is our ongoing training support for the LIFE of your dog. That’s right. Once you make the decision to hire us, we never abandon you, you’re making a long-term investment in your dog.
Why three weeks?
We have found that anything less than three weeks puts a lot of unnecessary pressure on your dog. Three weeks make it a fun experience while your dog builds excellent obedience and impulse control. It also gives us time to incorporate a lot of field trips to places such as parks, family parties, sports games, and stores. Your dog gets to practice in real-world settings BEFORE they go home.
Learning environment
Your dog will be staying in the comfort of our home and treated like a member of our family. How else does a dog learn to be a well-mannered family member? We like to think of it more as a “doggie vacation with training” than “boot camp.”
What about serious behavior issues?
If your dog has more profound behavior issues, such as moderate to severe aggression and/or anxiety, four and five-week programs are available.
Service Dog?
If you have a service dog, therapy dog, or emotional support dog inquiry, please contact us.
What to Expect
Our Board & Train program is a two- to three-week overnight training intensive where your dog lives with our family and learns foundational obedience skills in a structured environment. This program helps to jumpstart training success, building clear boundaries, and establishing a training routine that makes everyday life easier for your dog.
Board & Train, however, is not a permanent solution on its own. Dogs don’t live with their trainer forever; they live with their families and in their own homes, each with their own unique daily challenges. This makes the owner education and follow-through aspect of our Board & Train program equally as important.
What Your Dog Learns:
During your dog's board & train stay, they will learn:
- Sit/stay and down/stay
- Recall (coming when called)
- Loose-leash walking & obedience
- Place/boundary work
- Impulse control
- Household manners & behavior
What your dog will learn during their board & train at My Personal Dog Trainer:
Foundational Obedience
This is the root of all successful canine training and helps to build a solid foundation on which your pup can learn and improve on more complex skills. Our foundational training will cover simple sit/stay and down/stay commands, recall (coming when called), as well as on and off-leash training in settings that introduce different environments and varying levels of distraction.
Household Manners & Behavior
The board and train program integrates your canine into a structured daily routine, living in my home through the duration of their stay. This means they learn what daily life should look like inside the home, creating positive habits and behaviors that promote a calm household that is comfortable for both canine and human. Here, they will learn household boundaries that control impulses such as jumping and barking so your family and guests feel welcome.
Impulse & Behavior Control
Like humans, all dogs are different, having different impulses and behavioral triggers that can increase stress levels at unwanted times. During the board and train process, we will work with your canine to identify external triggers and undesirable behaviors, replacing those frantic reactions with thoughtful choices.
Consistency, Not Suppression
Behaviors such as jumping, barking, or reactivity are addressed through consistent modeling and reinforcement, not suppression. Setting clear behavior expectations for your dog and maintaining consistency will help keep you on the path to success and promote healthy behaviors at home and in public.
What Owners Learn:
Our Board & Train program gives owners the tools to maintain consistency:
- How to maintain structure at home
- How to reinforce trained behaviors
- Managing daily routines and changes in the environment
- Preventing training regression
Training Expectations
During our consultation, we’ll discuss all aspects of the Board & Train program, tailoring learning goals to your dog's personality and individual breed. Despite proven training methods, not all behaviors can be modified, and success rates are influenced by a number of external factors.
- Training cannot override animal genetics or breed traits
- Results vary based on training consistency, home environment, and follow-through
- Our programs require daily practice and routine after your dog returns home
Build a foundation for long-term success at home.
The Board & Train program is an excellent choice for building a strong foundational obedience and exposure to a daily routine. But long-term success is built at home. Just like your bond with your dog, consistency requires a lifelong commitment, but with practice, it soon becomes second nature for both you and your furry friend.
Who is this program for?
The Board & Train Program may be a great fit for you and your dog if:
- You are looking for a strong training foundation
- You’re willing to continue training at home
- You value structure and consistency
- You want guidance, not guarantees
Dog training is not for everyone and may not be for you if:
- You’re looking for a permanent fix
- You’re unwilling to modify your at-home routines
- You want to be completely hands-off
Committed To The Relationship
Dog training is never a quick fix and takes a lifetime of commitment and consistency to achieve the desired results. Your dog's genetics, age, and breed traits all play a role in their inherent behaviors and the overall success of their training. Most importantly, your involvement, relationship, and commitment to your canine can influence training success and help you achieve a rewarding lifelong bond you never thought possible. If you aren’t in a position to adjust your daily routines or prioritize consistent regular practice, professional dog training may not be the right fit at this time.
